Mark Hamill & Kevin Conroy Confirmed For Batman: The Killing Joke

Posted by on

Both Mark Hamill and Kevin Conroy have been confirmed for the DC animated movie Batman: The Killing Joke (via. Cosmic Book News [1]). Conroy will be reprising his role as Batman whilst Hamill returns as the Joker.

It first came about that this would be the case at 2015’s San Diego Comic-Con. Conroy posted this to his Twitter at the time:

One of the most exciting aspects of the film is the fact that it will include original footage that wasn’t featured in Alan Moore and Brian Bolland’s original comic.

“The source material is not long enough to make a feature film out of," executive producer Bruce Timm told[2]. "So we actually had to add a lot more story to it, which is tricky, but I think we came up with a really good solution on how that worked.”

In an interview with ConTV (via. Newsarama [3]), Timm also said:

"The one big difference about it, as opposed to those other projects, is The Killing Joke... the source material is really not long enough to make an entire feature film out of. So we actually had to add a lot more story to it. Which is tricky. But I think we came up with a really good solution on how that worked.”

Hamill released the first image from the movie as well on Twitter.

In a statement, Hamill said (via. Comic Book Resources [4]):

"The chance to work once again with Kevin Conroy, my favorite Batman, in what some consider the definitive origin of this iconic villain is a dream come true for me," Hamill said. "I am beyond thrilled to return as The Joker in 'The Killing Joke!’ "

“I’ve had the great privilege of voicing Batman for more than two decades, and some of my favorite moments in the recording booth have been alongside Mark Hamill," Conroy added. "Mark always enables me to be a better actor. I’m thrilled that we’re both back to bring these characters to life in one of the most heralded Batman/Joker stories of all time.”

Unfortunately, no release date has been set for The Killing Joke.
